Pity Party...

I’m having a pity party anyone care to join me? Yes, I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself today. I have to admit I was jealous yesterday after looking at Girlville’s dining room pictures, not in a mean way, just wishing for our own place again. My husband is in the Air Force and we live in base housing, blah, blah, blah! We can only do so much to our house, we painted last year and that helped but it’s not like having your own place. We came here from Vegas where we owned our home so I think it’s worse because we gave up that ownership freedom. We didn’t want to buy here because of the real estate market; we are only here for a few years and didn’t want to get stuck with a house we couldn’t sell. OK that's enough of the pity. In a few years, could be sooner we will be building our dream home or trying to find one that comes close to our dream so everybody keep the pictures coming so I can get tons of ideas.

oh no! don't have a pity party! i think you are VERY wise not buy a house if you're only going to be there for a few years and you are lucky that you can paint in a rental (i love the color of the kitchen or dining room where S is opening his gifts). since you are going to be building your dream house in a few years i suggest you start a notebook with ideas of room layouts, paint colors, furniture, etc. if you already haven't done that. just rip pages out of magazines/catalogs and collect paint chips, fabric samples and stuff from stores. it will make things easier when you do build and give you something fun to do in the interim.

Thanks for the advice. We've lived in so many different houses that we know what we don't want. I'll have to start looking through magazines. I love watching all the shows on HGTV too which have great ideas.

DOnt have a pity party! You really are doing the smart thing! ANd I know housing up there is VERY pricey. I guess I didnt realize your husband was still in the military. I hope base housing up there is better than down here. We didnt live in base housing at Fort Jackson, but we drove thru it before we bought a house and I cried cause it just looked trashy.

I agree, Girlville's house is very nice! Our next house will be small and not our dream home by far, b/c we'll be low on funds, but one day! We'll have another big house.

Well, you have a beautiful things that you've gotten from your travels and things you've collected over time. It will be so much fun to get your dream house and put it all together. If you buy magazines (decorating or building ones) and tear out the pictures and keep them in a folder, it will help so much when you get ready to buy or build your dream home. Also, when you go to Lowe's or wherever, pick up the paint samples and put them in the folder, too. It's so fun (to me) to do this kind of thing in anticipation of building or remodeling. Just keep in mind that as long as you are not able to fix up the military houses, that you can SAVE that money for your permanent home....NOW HURRY UP AND GET DOWN HERE TO THE PANHANDLE.
